October is People Get Ready month

Many of you probably just think of October as "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month," but we at Brassland will humbly submit you should update your calender to reflect that it is also "Adopt People Get Ready Month." If you aren't familiar with People Get Ready, rest assured close followers of Brassland (i.e. you) will soon be inundated with their infectious melodies, relentless high-energy rhythms and genre-bending live performances by the end of said month. With a number of releases, premieres and parties slated to take place, you people should get ready to start autumn by riding the groundswell of PGR output and activities.

For those of you who want to get an early start of things, the band is holding a benefit on Friday, September 28th and you're invited. Here's said invite and here is the Facebook event page in case you want to share the crap out of it. We won't talk too much about this because it's kind of a fancy jam and we totally like to pretend we are DIY freegans, but suffice it to say there will be lots of artisinal activities to be had. Pickles, cocktails, good cheese, handcrafted furniture, stuff with birds on it. The whole deal.

The popular movement starts in earnest in October, though, and let's start with the big, obvious news: People Get Ready's self-titled debut album is set to release October 16th (digitally) and Oct 22nd (physically). There may just be a pre-order somewhere in between (or before). Then blam, on October 18th comes the debut of their new performance piece "Specific Ocean" at New York Live Arts. It will showcase People Get Ready's unique blend of choreographed performance, indie rock and visual overwhelmment. (That's not an actual word, but totally appropriate and we like it. So there.) The venue's promotional literature calls it a "multi-sensory mixtape." The New York Times described an earlier PGR show with a poetic filigree, comparing it to "an experience beyond hearing music in a club or viewing a dance; it is a moving meditation that suggests dreams." They are obviously taking different drugs than us. (Who needs dreams when reality can look this cool?) But, still, totally nice of them to say and maybe that gives you a metaphorical sense of what to expect.

Anyway, the show will run October 18th through the 20th. And O.G. indie rocker and Brassland pal & supporter Michael Azerrad will be doing spieling at some point (to steal a Wattism). It's gonna be sweet, dudes!

At some point in October there also might be a video. Maybe a wildly popular video sharing site will premiere it and get lots of eyeballs!

Needless to say by the end of the month we'll all finally be ready to let off some steam and savor in People Get Ready's success, don't you think? By happy coincidence, the band have a final treat in store for you along those lines: the band's October 27th album release party at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. Keep an eye on our shows page for the most up-to-date information, and if by the time Halloween rolls around you're still feeling PGR-deficient, then you weren't paying attention!

Come to think of it, the bands might have some ideas for Halloween fun, too!
